Prologue: A Storytelling Card Game About Refusing Your Destiny
It is with great pride and trepidation that I finally release Prologue. This is the very first storytelling card game that I developed solo, and also the one that I most wanted to get right. Prologue tells the story of a group of young adults on the verge of coming-of-age in a fantasy village, each with their own destiny before them. One in particular has the unlucky destiny to be a mythical Hero, who will come into conflict with the evil Wizard who rules the land. The Hero will likely fail. They will certainly die. And they will be reborn again. It is written. So it will be.
This is a fantasy storytelling game where being the Hero is the lose-condition. Do everything you can to write yourself the destiny that you want, and avoid the short, painful, and doomed destiny of the Hero.
This game is heavily inspired by The Quiet Year by Avery Alder, but shares very little with that game mechanically outside the use of card-based prompts to help tell stories.
I hope you enjoy Prologue! All comments, feedback, and suggestions are welcome!
